An Engaging NYC Theatre Adventure with Avon HS

Students from Avon HS (IN) had an engaging theatre adventure in NYC this month. From taking workshops to interacting with industry professionals to attending Broadway shows, students were left inspired.

Upon arriving in New York City, Avon HS (IN) theatre students took the subway to Rockefeller Center. They then headed to the Radio City Music Hall for a behind-the-scenes tour of the home of the famous Rockettes. That evening, the group had dinner at Gayle’s Broadway Rose, where immensely talented wait staff and servers serenaded them with Broadway favorites.

After a morning exploring Central Park, students took a workshop with a “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child” stage manager. They learned theatre tricks and secrets that bring magic to life on stage. Then, the group traced groundbreaking moments in Broadway’s history at the Museum of Broadway before heading to the Lyric Theatre to experience “Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.”

Following the show, the stage manager from their workshop earlier that day granted them a private backstage and onstage tour! Students agreed it was a highlight of the trip.

The next day, travelers toured the NYC theatre district before taking a bird’s-eye view of the city from the top of the SUMMIT One Vanderbilt observatory. After an afternoon of shopping and exploring iconic Times Square, students were joined at dinner by cast members from “Gypsy” for a meet-and-greet! The evening closed with a showing of “Gypsy” at the Majestic Theatre.

Avon HS theatre students’ final morning in NYC began with the 9/11 Memorial and Museum. The group then flew home!
