Celebrating 15 Years of Jeff Buchanan

Educational Destinations announces the retirement of long-time Senior Travel Designer Jeff Buchanan. For over 15 years, Buchanan has worked tirelessly to learn the needs of his clients, form long-lasting connections and create impactful travel experiences for more than 27,000 students and educators.

“Jeff has been a fantastic resource for his clients, always offering multiple options and finding what works for them. He is relentless in making sure they have what they need.”

During his time at Educational Destinations, Buchanan planned and delivered 370 trips.

Buchanan’s dedication and drive were clear from the beginning. When he joined the MTC family of brands in 2009, Educational Destinations had minimal presence in Ohio. Since then, Buchanan has developed the state into one of the company’s strongest territories.

“Jeff Buchanan instantly made an impact on MTC upon his arrival,” said MTC President and CEO Mark Harting. “He vowed to visit every school in the state of Ohio early on in his tenure with the company – a feat that was accomplished very quickly and with monumental results! After a few short years, Jeff became a leading force on the sales team by selling the most trips on the team year after year.”

Buchanan knows the best Mexican restaurant in every county in Ohio.

Buchanan’s expert ability to craft trips that excelled in both educational value and student engagement was influenced by his many years serving as an Ohio music educator and band director.

“Jeff’s extensive classroom experience served him well, as he always had the students’ best musical and travel experience in mind when designing their trips.”

Buchanan was named Teacher of the Year in 2002.

Besides his long-standing sales success, Buchanan’s personality and sense of humor will make him a much-missed member of the Educational Destinations team. “One of my favorite things about Jeff was occasionally receiving hilarious emails or texts. His sense of humor will be sorely missed,” Harting commented.

Morris fondly remembered Buchanan’s readiness to share musical theatre references. “Some incredibly obscure, but always funny,” he said.

A composer and arranger, Buchanan’s commissioned works for marching band have been performed from Hawaii to England.

Educational Destinations celebrated Buchanan with an in-office toast and private reception, where friends and coworkers gathered to share their appreciation and re-tell favorite Buchanan sayings, stories and jokes from over the years.

Buchanan encouraged everyone to adopt his philosophy: “Take your work seriously, but don’t take yourself too seriously.”

Buchanan plans to continue pursuing his other interests during his retirement, including all things Cedar Point, the Reds and working with his local theatre.
