With a knack for organization and a passion for music, Cory Gates loves being on the Educational Destinations team as an Operations Specialist. Outside his work at ED, Cory is heavily involved in the marching arts and is proud to be on the hornline staff with the Avon Marching Black and Gold and as a member of the brass staff at Carolina Crown Drum and Bugle Corps.

Cory’s involvement in the performing arts spans just over 15 years, from his time in 5th grade beginning band to numerous years spent with world-class ensembles. He was a member of Spirit of Atlanta Drum and Bugle Corps from 2010-2011, and Carolina Crown from 2012-2016. After his age-out season with Crown in 2016, Cory traded his spot as a performer on the field for a brass staff position at Legends Drum and Bugle Corps, where he taught for three years. Cory is honored to be teaching at his alma mater, Carolina Crown, for the 2020 season.

A native of the sunshine state, Cory spent his early childhood enjoying daily Florida thunderstorms (which he misses very much) before moving to the Carolinas where he discovered seasons. Cory wishes he could have brought the Carolina climate with him when he moved to Indianapolis in 2019. When he is not working at MTC or teaching band, Cory can most likely be found working with his hands, trying out new recipes and eating tasty snacks, petting all the cats, and spending time with friends. Cory loves to travel and hopes to live internationally someday, with Japan at the top of his list.
