ED introduces a new series to show students what is being done in Indiana to promote environmental awareness and new technology that will lead us to a greener future. You can tour the Subaru of Indiana Automotive Plant, go on a Wind Farm Tour, or enjoy a Purdue Green Organization Talk. Find out what Indiana is doing on the cutting edge of the Green Movement and what you can do to be a part of it.
Subaru of Indiana Automotive Plant Tour
Tour the plant where Subaru of Indiana Automotive produces the Outback, Legacy, Tribeca, and the Toyota Camry. Learn about the factories green initiatives including how they became the first U.S. auto assembly plant to be designated a Backyard Wildlife Habitat by the National Wildlife Federation and to achieve ZERO LANDFILL. Find out what efforts they make to continually fulfill their environmental policy to "Eliminate all environmental risks of" their operations.
Purdue Green Organization Talk
Enjoy a talk and discussion about environmental issues from a student or faculty member of one of Purdue's many environmentally focused organizations. Find out what they are doing on the cutting edge of the Green Movement and what you can do to be a part of it.
Wind Farm Tour
Tour one of western Indiana's wind farms. Find out what makes this area ideal for this green power generation and what makes the massive windmills work.
Currently Participating Organizations:
Purdue Solar Racing – PSR is a student organization committed to building and racing competitive solar powered vehicles. They are currently working on building their 8th car since the club began in 1991. Their most recently completed car, PULSAR, competed in the 2008 Shell Eco-Marathon, winning the solar division with an energy usage equivalent to 2861.8 mpg.
Purdue Energy Club – The Purdue Energy Club is a multi-disciplinary team, research-based club which seeks to solve the world's most complex energy challenges. The clubs most recent initiative is to investigate LED lighting, as a means to improving Purdue Campus sustainability.
